Santa’s Arrived at Toad Hall

Santa arrived at the Toad Hall Garden Centre this morning and took up residence in his beautiful new grotto. He was there with four of his helpers and staff from Toad Hall to welcome his first visitors. Lynn from Toad Hall and Anna from First Days cut the ribbon and Santa declared his grotto to be open. Santa is being helped by the Lions Club of Henley-on-Thames and proceeds from ticket sales will be supporting First Days and the Footsteps Centre, both very deserving local charities. Santa will be in his grotto on each of the four weekends leading up to Christmas.

Henley Lions Support First Days Children’s Charity

At our September club meeting Lion President David Skinner presented a cheque for £1,000 to Annette Honeyball of the First Days Children’s Charity. First Days provide everyday essentials to local families in need by distributing clothes, toiletries, school uniforms equipment, furniture, toys and books. Three members of the club had visited First Days at their premises at Hurst and were extremely impressed with the work being done by this charity. Annette thanked the club and gave a short presentation about the charity’s work and how they would use the money that we donated.

Henley Memory Cafe – Thames Cruise

Henley Lions recently sponsored two outings on the River Thames for the members of the Memory Cafe. Both cruises were on the Rivertime which is a boat which is especially designed for disabled passengers. The Memory Cafe is held at Christ Church in Henley and provides support fo those with dementia and other memory loss conditions. By all accounts those taking part on both of the excursions had a very enjoyable and relaxing experience. The Rivertime is run by the Rivertime Boat Trust charity and is another of the worthy causes supported by a number of Lions Clubs in our area.
