Lynn and the team at Toad Hall Garden Centre have built Santa a fabulous new grotto for this Christmas season. It’s even more amazing than in previous years and must be seen to be believed. The grotto is open to view now. Santa himself will be arriving on the morning of Saturday, 30 November 2019 at 10:00am. He will then be in his grotto for the following four weekends on both Saturday, 10:00am – 5:00pm and Sunday, 10:30am – 4:00pm.
At our September club meeting Lion President David Skinner presented a cheque for £1,000 to Annette Honeyball of the First Days Children’s Charity. First Days provide everyday essentials to local families in need by distributing clothes, toiletries, school uniforms equipment, furniture, toys and books. Three members of the club had visited First Days at their premises at Hurst and were extremely impressed with the work being done by this charity. Annette thanked the club and gave a short presentation about the charity’s work and how they would use the money that we donated.
Henley Lions recently sponsored two outings on the River Thames for the members of the Memory Cafe. Both cruises were on the Rivertime which is a boat which is especially designed for disabled passengers. The Memory Cafe is held at Christ Church in Henley and provides support fo those with dementia and other memory loss conditions. By all accounts those taking part on both of the excursions had a very enjoyable and relaxing experience. The Rivertime is run by the Rivertime Boat Trust charity and is another of the worthy causes supported by a number of Lions Clubs in our area.
